πAnnotate
Point at the exact spot in a document, say what you think, hand it to your AI.
How it works
Open a document — drop a PDF onto the right card, or click Open…. Markdown (.md), PNG and
JPEG work too.
Click where you mean. A numbered heart drops there, and its [n] is added on a new line
at the end of your note.
Write your remark after its [n]. Markdown and LaTeX ($…$,
$$…$$) are welcome; the preview above shows them (click its header to fold it away).
Copy for AI, then paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any chat: for each heart, the AI gets the
page, the text under it, and your remark.
The hearts
Click a heart to read its remark — it is selected in your note, ready to edit.
Double-click a heart to remove it and its remark — you are asked first.
Hold & drag a heart to move it.
Alt/Cmd/Ctrl-click the document to follow a link (a table of contents, a URL) instead of dropping a heart.
Clear hearts removes every heart and its remark, after a confirmation.
Close puts the document away, with its hearts and your note — you are asked first if they are not
saved.
Copy for AI
One plain text: the document’s name, your general note (anything written before the first [n]),
then each [n] with where it is and what you wrote. On a PDF, “where” is the page and the line of
text under the heart — a quote the AI can find in the document. On a figure or a scanned page there is no text,
so the position is given instead. On a PNG or JPEG you can also copy the picture with its numbered hearts drawn
on it, to paste into the same chat.
The AI sees only what you paste. For questions about the whole document, attach the PDF too.
Save, and coming back
Your work is kept in this browser as you go: close the tab, come back, you are where you left off —
one document at a time.
Save (Ctrl/Cmd+S) downloads one small .json file: your note and
where every heart is. To come back to it, drop the .json onto the window, then its document — or
both at once. The .json holds the PDF’s or the picture’s name, not the file itself (a Markdown
document is inside it, whole). Save greys out when everything is saved.
For AI agents
Agents that read files (Claude Code, Codex…) can read the .json itself. Give them this guide with it:
Your LaTeX macros
A Newcommands.tex file of your own \newcommand macros makes them available to the LaTeX
of your note. It is remembered in this browser.

Your documents stay with you
πAnnotate opens your documents inside your browser: they are never uploaded, and your notes never leave your
computer. This website counts its visits and which buttons are used, never your documents, their names or your notes. The details: Privacy.
Good to know
Hearts are stored as fractions of the page: zooming changes nothing.
Removing a heart doesn’t renumber the others — gaps are expected.
The
changes color every time you open πAnnotate. Click it for another.
